Terms
JiJi keeps the most personal material a family has. These are the terms we keep it under. They are short on purpose. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@jijilife.com and a person will explain it.
THE SHORT VERSION
Your record is yours. Nothing in it is shared until you say so, and then only with the people you choose. JiJi never invents words and never sells your information. If you are not happy, give us a chance to make it right, or take a refund. If JiJi ever closes, you get everything out first. The rest of this page says the same things in a little more detail.
WHO WE ARE
JiJi is made by G-Von-G Ventures, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Birmingham, Alabama. When this page says "we," that is who it means. When it says "you," it means the person holding the account.
YOUR ACCOUNT
An account belongs to one person. You sign in with your email, and you may add a password or Face ID. Keep your sign-in to yourself, because whoever holds it can see what you can see. You must be an adult to open an account. Children can appear in a family’s stories with a parent’s permission, but they do not hold accounts.
YOUR RECORD IS YOURS
Every story, photograph, recording, and artifact in a record belongs to the people who put it there. We do not own it and we never will. You give us only the permission we need to store it, show it to the people you have chosen, and present it back to you in the ways the app offers. We never sell your information. We never show advertising. We never use your material to train models outside your own record’s features.
WHOSE WORDS ARE WHOSE
Every word in a record is labeled with who said it. When JiJi arranges or reads back what was said, the original stays underneath, untouched, and you can always see it. JiJi does not invent, does not embellish, and does not fill gaps with guesses dressed as facts. If a story is uncertain, it stays uncertain. If something is wrong, you can correct it, and the correction is kept alongside the original.
ADDING TO SOMEONE ELSE'S STORY
People share stories with the people who were in them, and that is the point. When you add a story, photo, or recording that involves another person, you are telling us you have the right to share it. Please do not add anything you would not say to that person’s face. What happens if they object is in the next section.
WHO CAN SEE A RECORD
Nobody, unless the record’s owner invites them by name. There is no public content, no directory, and no way to find a record by searching. Paying for someone’s record does not grant access to it; the person whose record it is decides that.
When you add a story, it is not shared until you say it can be. You can hold a story privately, or share it only with the people who were involved in it. If someone in your circle shares something and a person involved asks us to take it down, we take that seriously. That person always has control over what gets added to their own record, and we will talk to the record’s owner, because we also believe in an owner truly owning their record. We work hard to strike that balance.
IF SOMETHING COULD HURT
Not every true story is easy to read. If a shared story could be painful or offensive to someone it involves, JiJi may cover it rather than show it outright, and that person chooses whether to reveal it. Nothing is deleted or changed; the record stays exactly as it was told. We will publish plain guidelines for what gets covered, and you can tell us when we get it wrong.
A RECORD CAN OUTLIVE ITS OWNER
The owner names who will look after the record when they are gone, and that person becomes its custodian. A custodian can keep the record whole, add what the family remembers, and decide who may see it. A custodian cannot put new words in the owner’s mouth, and neither can we. JiJi will tell you what someone said; it will never pretend to be them.
VOICE
JiJi can play a person’s stories back in a voice made from their own recordings. That is a choice the person makes while living, at the level they set, and it is locked when they die. If someone passes without ever making the choice, the custodian may consent for them on the family’s behalf, and we record that the consent was given that way. A custodian can lower a level and can never raise one. A synthesized voice only ever speaks words the person actually said.
Not everyone wants to hear a voice this way, especially after a death. Hearing it is always your choice. The feature is there for those who want it, labeled so you always know what you are hearing, and off for you whenever you ask.
MESSAGES
We email or text you only if you have turned that on yourself. Reply STOP to any text, or turn the setting off in the app, and messages stop. Details are on the messaging page.
JiJi text message program. By adding your mobile number in your JiJi account and turning on Text messages in your Notification settings, you agree to receive recurring account notification text messages from JiJi, a service of G-Von-G Ventures Inc, at the number you provided: new-story digests from your family’s record, and alerts when someone in your circle asks you a question. Texting is optional and off by default; you never need it to use JiJi.
Message frequency varies; typically a few messages a month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time; you will receive one confirmation and no further messages. Reply HELP for help, or contact hello@jijilife.com. JiJi texts from (844) 330-5454. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Participation is subject to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
PAYING FOR JIJI
While JiJi is new, the record you build is free. When paid plans begin, here is how they work. A record is commissioned once, not subscribed to, and paid in three stages as it is built. Family Access is a yearly item.
There is also a yearly storage charge, based on the size of your record. It is not how JiJi makes money; it is the cost of keeping your recordings and photographs safe and available, passed along at cost so the record is still there next year and the year after. Every price is shown before you pay, and the price you agreed to is the price you keep. Anything that renews will remind you before it does, and you can turn renewal off at any time.
OUR GUARANTEE
If you are not happy with JiJi, tell us. We will make it right, and if we cannot, we will refund what you paid. No form to fill in, no argument. We would rather lose a sale than overpromise or leave someone unhappy. All we ask is that you give us a chance to make it right, and even that is always your prerogative.
Two honest limits. Refunds go back to whoever paid, so a gift is refunded to the giver. And if we have printed and shipped something physical for you, we will fix or replace it if it is faulty, but we cannot un-print it.
LEAVING, EXPORTING, DELETING
You can take everything out of JiJi at any time: your stories as text, your photographs, your recordings as audio files. You can ask us to delete your account or an entire record, and we will. One exception, for the sake of everyone who depends on a record: if other people depend on it, the owner or custodian decides what happens to it, so that one person closing an account does not erase a grandmother’s stories for everyone else.
IF JIJI EVER CLOSES
You should never lose your recordings because a company did. If JiJi ever shuts down, we will tell you at least ninety days ahead, keep the export tools running the whole time at no charge, and never hand your record to another company without your say. Keep your own copies too; the export exists so you always can.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
Be truthful about who said what. Do not pretend to be someone you are not. Do not add material you have no right to share. Do not use JiJi to harass anyone or to copy other people’s records. If someone does these things, we may close their account, and we will tell them why.
OUR LIMITS
We work hard to keep JiJi running and your material safe, and we will always tell you plainly when something goes wrong. We cannot promise the service will never have a problem. If something we do costs you money, our responsibility is limited to what you paid us, except where the law says otherwise.
CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
If we change something that matters, we will email you first and give you time to read it. If you do not like a change, you can export your record and leave, and we will refund anything you prepaid and have not used.
IF WE DISAGREE
Talk to us first. Most things are settled in one conversation. If we still cannot agree, the laws of Delaware, where G-Von-G Ventures is incorporated, apply.
